The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially announced the Senior Secretariat Assistant / Upper Division Clerk (SSA/UDC) Grade Limited Departmental Competitive Examination 2025. This is a golden opportunity for eligible central government employees currently working as Junior Secretariat Assistants (JSA) or Lower Division Clerks (LDC) in 10 specified participating Services and Cadres to earn a well-deserved promotion to the Group C Non-Gazetted level. The SSC SSA/UDC LDCE 2025 Notification was released on 05 June 2026 vide Advertisement No. 4/1/2026-CONF-5. A total of 227 tentative vacancies have been notified across ten major Central Government organisations, including the Central Passport Organisation under the Ministry of External Affairs, Armed Forces Headquarters Clerical Service, Railway Board Secretariat Clerical Service, Central Administrative Tribunal, Central Vigilance Commission, Election Commission of India, Forest Survey of India, National Technical Research Organisation, Directorate General Defence Estates, and the Office of Development Commissioner under the Ministry of MSME. This examination is strictly internal in nature — it is not open to fresh candidates from outside the government. Only those who are currently working as JSA or LDC in the specified participating cadres and meet the service eligibility conditions for their respective organisations are permitted to apply. The required length of qualifying service ranges from three years (Election Commission of India) to six years (Central Passport Organisation) depending on the cadre, and the crucial date for counting this service also differs per organisation. The pay scale for the SSA/UDC post is Pay Level-4 under the 7th Central Pay Commission, which translates to a basic pay range of ₹25,500 to ₹81,100 per month. This is a step up from the JSA/LDC pay of Level-2, making it a significant financial and career advancement for eligible employees. The selection process for SSC SSA/UDC LDCE 2025 is structured in two parts. Part-I carries 300 marks and consists of Paper-I, a Computer Based Examination (CBE) of 200 marks covering General Awareness and English Language & Comprehension, and Paper-II, a descriptive Written Examination of 100 marks on Noting, Drafting & Office Procedure. Part-II involves an Evaluation of Service Records through Annual Performance Assessment Reports (APARs) for 100 marks. The grand total is 400 marks, and the final merit list will be prepared on the basis of aggregate performance across all three components. Candidates must note that Paper-I carries a negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer, so careful attempt strategy is important. Paper-II is descriptive and does not involve negative marking. Candidates must clear Paper-I to be eligible for Paper-II evaluation, and must qualify the Part-I aggregate to be shortlisted for the APAR-based evaluation in Part-II. For the SSA/UDC LDCE 2025, the Computer Based Examination is tentatively scheduled in July–August 2026, and it will be conducted in Delhi NCR only. Candidates posted abroad will have to travel to India at their own expense, as no examination centre will be set up at any Indian mission overseas. The application process is entirely online. Candidates must apply through the SSC's official website at ssc.gov.in using the One Time Registration (OTR) system. After completing the online application, candidates must also submit a printed copy of their application with the required documents, forwarded by their Head of Department/Office through the proper channel, to the Regional Director, SSC Northern Region, New Delhi, by 03 July 2026. In terms of document requirements, applicants must attach a certified copy of the first page of their Service Book, service particulars duly attested by the Head of Department, copies of essential educational qualifications (if applicable), disability certificate for PwBD candidates, and a valid photo ID. Candidates who qualify and are finally selected will be posted to Group C positions in their respective participating cadres, with full government benefits including 7th CPC pay, Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, and pension entitlements under the applicable scheme. This SSA/UDC LDCE 2025 recruitment is a competitive and not merely a qualifying examination — every mark counts toward the final ranking. Eligible serving employees in the specified cadres should not miss this structured and merit-based promotion pathway offered by the Staff Selection Commission.
